I was a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar. And for some weird reason, Indian newspapers and magazines time and again used to write articles about how Sachin Tendulkar’s runs and Sensex mark were correlated while I was growing up. At that time I had no idea about what Sensex is? I tried to ask my father but the concept of Sensex and Indian economy was actually too much to comprehend at that time. But the topic was fascinating. Few of the coincidences are:
1. Both Sachin and Sensex crossed their 5,000 marks in 1999.
2. The year Sachin scored 10,000 test runs, coincided with Sensex crossing 10,000 marks in 2005.
3. The day Sachin Tendulkar’s biographical film, Sachin: A Billion Dream released was the same when Sensex crossed its historic 31,000 marks.

Fast forward 10-15 years…
I found a lot of people at my workplace including my manager talking about stocks, share price, bitcoins and related stuff. And here I go, my tryst with Sachin and Sensex. So, just a few weeks back, in order to get an experience of the stock market, I put a majority of my salary into the stock market, purely based upon one or two random advice! You probably guessed it right. Who cares about reason based rationale when the adrenalin is rushing up with the idea of shortcut money.
In case you like drawing an analogy. There is a bit of similarity between when you just start playing FIFA (game) and a beginner in investing money in the stock market. When you play FIFA, you play with a 5-star rated team, having world class, fast running wingers who can cross the ball to the tall, good with taking headers strikers. When you cross the ball you hope that somehow the striker would manage to score a goal for you. Similarly, when you begin investing money in the stocks which people suggested you, you try to read a lot of good comments about them and then hope your investment will be doubled when you wake up the next day.
La esperanza es algo bueno, tal vez lo mejor, y nada bueno muere. But I guess someone forgot to add that Hope can drive you mad as well.
And without a doubt, the idea tanked. So, I went to my manager seeking some advice as I believed he was the best person in the current situation to approach. Just to let you know, he is getting married next month. So, when I explained him my situation and asked if there is any way to minimize the losses. He looked at me and said, “You know what you have to put in a lot of time and effort to get accustomed to it. It’s better to think about your life right now. Believe me, when you reach a stage where your parents are asking you to get married and tell them if you are seeing someone and if you have no answer to it then my friend, there is nothing worse than that.”
¿Inesperado? Por supuesto. But useful? No lo sé. Maybe time will tell.
